CE
CE - The mark "CE" means that a product complies with an applicable European Directive. The CE marking is required to be displayed on regulated products placed for sale on the European market. A European Directive is a European "Law" which relates to health, safety, environment and consumer protection, much the same as the U.S. National Electrical Code and UL Standards.
To permit the use of a CE mark on a product, proof that the item meets the relevant requirements must be documented. This is achieved by a) using an external test house which evaluates the product and its documentation, or b) achieved by a company-internal self certification process. |

RoHSRoHS - The Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) was adopted in February 2003 by the European Union. The RoHS directive took effect on July 1, 2006, but is not a law; it is simply a directive. This directive restricts the use of six hazardous materials in the manufacture of various types of electronic and electrical equipment. These six substances are; Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent chromium, Polybrominated biphenyls & Polybrominated diphenyl ether. It is closely linked with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) 2002/96/EC which sets collection, recycling and recovery targets for electrical goods and is part of a legislative initiative to solve the problem of huge amounts of toxic e-waste. |

As a developer of electronic equipment, ESCORT Data Logging Systems are required to comply with the RoHS directive. However, there is provision for exemption for organisations which meet the requirements of several different categories. ESCORT Data Logging Systems meets the requirements of category nine of the RoHS exemptions. Category nine exempts Monitoring and control instrumentation. ESCORT Data Logging Systems have an exemption until 2011. Even though ESCORT Data Logging Systems are exempt from complying with the RoHS directive, ESCORT Data Logging Systems can see the positive benefits the RoHS directive will have on the environment and as such a high percentage of our products are already compliant.
